A completed investment reported in September 2026

On 11 September 2026, Mondelēz International launched its completed RM90 million Crumb Tower at the Cadbury Confectionery plant in Shah Alam. The official release published by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority described it as the company’s largest single investment at that site. This article looks back at that announcement; it is not a new assessment of the plant’s current performance.

The investment brought production of chocolate crumb, an ingredient used in chocolate manufacturing, into the Shah Alam site. The release said the plant had previously imported this input from markets including South Africa and Australia. That makes the development a specific example of changing a factory’s production capability within an established location.

The process mattered as much as the space

Three systems featured in the announcement: enclosed powder handling, a new-generation T-reactor and advanced fat handling. Together, the systems supported an automated process managed through digital controls. The release also described food-safety and halal requirements as part of the facility’s design.

For a business considering its own upgrade, the practical question is what the premises must support. A machinery layout alone does not answer how ingredients arrive, how materials move between stages, where maintenance happens or how the completed product leaves the site. Those questions belong in the operating brief before a building is shortlisted.

People and technical support were part of the project

The official account said Malaysian engineers and operators had been trained to manage the new systems. It also said local technology suppliers involved in the project had qualified to support other Mondelēz sites globally. These were reported elements of this particular investment, rather than claims about every manufacturer in Shah Alam.

The useful lesson is to include training, maintenance support and access to critical spares in an expansion plan. A buyer can ask who will commission the machinery, which skills must be available on each shift and how a fault would be handled after installation.

Questions for another factory expansion

Start with the intended production flow and equipment requirements. Then ask the relevant suppliers and qualified advisers to verify utilities, installation needs, process safety and any sector-specific requirements at the exact premises. This news report does not establish what power capacity, structural capacity or approvals another factory would need.

The project budget should also identify commissioning, staff preparation and continuing technical support. Keeping those items visible helps a business compare premises against the whole operating plan rather than comparing floor area alone. It does not establish a budget or return for a different business.

What the announcement cannot tell a property buyer

The release did not disclose the Crumb Tower’s floor area, extra production volume, electricity requirement or financial return. Its description of Shah Alam as a reference site was the company’s own position, not an independently assessed ranking.

This is direct evidence of one manufacturer reinvesting in Shah Alam. It does not establish wider factory prices, rents or demand. Shah Alam Factory & Land Team can discuss your operating requirements when comparing premises; current property details and suitability still need their own checks.
