A staged announcement, with different deadlines

Panasonic's announcement on 27 July 2026 described a staged change at Panasonic AVC Networks Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, known as PAVCKM. This historical article explains that announcement, which the team covered in August. It does not confirm whether each subsequent production milestone has been completed.

The company said television production would stop and Blu-ray player production would move to China by the end of September 2026. Technics Hi-Fi production was scheduled to end by February 2027, with PAVCKM ceasing operations and approximately 400 employees expected to be affected by the end of March 2027. Panasonic said it was working with agencies and the workers' union on placement and career-transition support.

An operating change is also a continuity decision

For factory owners and occupiers, the useful lesson concerns the sequence of a move. A property handover date is only one part of an operating timetable. Equipment removal, installation at the next location, testing, stock movements and staff arrangements need to be considered together before a business commits to a new premises.

A practical relocation plan should therefore work backwards from the date production needs to resume. Ask which activities can happen in parallel, which depend on a completed approval or installation, and where an unexpected delay would interrupt customer deliveries. That exercise helps a business define what it actually needs from its next building.

Keep people and premises in the same discussion

A technically suitable factory may still create difficulties if the move leaves key staff unable to reach work reliably. Before narrowing a property shortlist, discuss the intended workforce arrangement, travel patterns and the timing of any production transfer. These are operating questions to investigate, rather than assumptions a property agent can settle from a floor plan.

The comparison should also allow for a transition period. Ask the business to identify any need for temporary storage, overlap between two sites or continued access to the original premises. Record who is responsible for each requirement and when a written answer is needed. A clear responsibility list is more useful than a broad promise that relocation will be straightforward.

What this says about the Shah Alam property

The announcement did not establish that the premises was available for sale, lease or redevelopment. A manufacturing decision should not be turned into a property listing without authority and supporting information. Anyone hearing that a former operating site is available should verify the position directly with an authorised representative.

One company's reorganisation also does not establish a general movement in Shah Alam factory rents, values or demand. Comparing other premises still requires evidence about the particular property, its permitted use, condition, utilities and access. The headline provides context; it does not replace that work.

One practical starting point

Before viewing replacement factories, prepare a short operating brief that sets out the required production date, equipment needs, workforce considerations and unanswered approval questions. Then test each shortlisted premises against that brief. For a Shah Alam or Selangor relocation, the Shah Alam Factory & Land Team can help structure the property discussion around those requirements.
